In contrast to the Schönbrunn Palace or the Belvedere the humble abode of FAC Platz is as far away as you can get from a classical Viennese landmark.

There is Rapid Vienna then FK Austria and somewhere in between all that First Vienna and the arty Museums Quarter.

FAC or simply Floridsdorfer AC is a professional football club based in Floridsdorf, the 21st district of Vienna.

They were founded in August 1904 and won the Austrian football championship in 1918.

The club colors are blue and white and they are currently playing in the Austrian 2. Liga, the second tier of Austrian football.

The first president in the history of the club was a Herr Freund and as a club still they have some friends in the city. Even where most football mad youth follow the giants of Rapid and Austria some do gather at the FAC Platz for every fixture offering support and encouragement to the players.

Structural and sporting development on and off the field has occurred albeit not as rapidly as it has at other clubs of the same size.

Numerous local successes and Austrian cantonal victories have been achieved leaving the feeling to this day one of local and regional football rather than national.

Mergers have came and went and football participation has jumped between the Regionalliga East and the more localized Wiener State league.

Recent years have seem some of the best results in the clubs history and they now find themselves in the second division.

In the national ÖFB-Cup Floridsdorfer AC have reached the quarter finals although ultimately fell by the wayside.

In the 2. Liga FAC completed one league season as vice-champion with 65 points – only five points short of promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga – but in truth the top tier might be a step too far.

FAC are located in the north part of Vienna at the FAC pitch in Hopfengasse. It has has been home to the Blue and White side since the 1960’s.

In November 1987 the area was renamed “Leopold-Stroh-Anlage” and today is most commonly known as FAC Platz.

With the financial support of the municipality of Vienna, the Vienna Football Association and assorted club benefactors the construction of a newer main grandstand has occurred. In more recent years infrastructural extensions have followed leaving the home ground a humble one and similar to many other local Vienna clubs.

Marco Arnautović began his career at Floridsdorfer AC and is immortalized in artwork within the stadium.

Since the 2015/16 season there have been two completely new tubular steel stands erected at FAC-Platz and these accommodate both home and visiting supporters at each end of the stadium.
